About Mineko Ogata
Mineko Ogata is a versatile pianist, vocalist, and composer from Japan whose music transcends genre boundaries, seamlessly blending jazz with elements of classical, pop, rock, folk, and hip-hop. Rooted in deep musical foundations and guided by both technical mastery and emotional storytelling, she captivates audiences across cultures. With extensive experience as a sideman as well as a band leader, and with a profound swing feel and a deeply improvisational approach—both in her piano playing and her vocal performances—she shapes a musicality that flows with natural ease, often hailed as an innate gift by those who hear it.
Born in Chiba, Japan, to a jazz pianist father and a vocalist mother who gave her a name Mineko 緒方美音子, signifying 'a child of beautiful sound. Mineko grew up immersed in music. Daily listening sessions to records by Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Ella Fitzgerald shaped her musical ear, while classical training in piano, voice, and composition at her parents’ Plaza Ongaku-In (Music School founded in 1977 - 2006 in Chiba) provided a solid technical foundation.
Her early years were steeped in a household where classical, jazz, pop, and Hawaiian music coexisted freely—a foundation that inspired her eclectic musical identity.
✨Rooted in classical piano and enriched by cultural heritage, improvisation, and lifelong curiosity, Mineko Ogata creates music that resonates across genres and generations.
